A new aerial, fitted properly

A good TV aerial installation gives you every Freeview channel, a stable picture in all weathers and an installation that lasts for many years. Our aerial fitters start every job with signal meter readings at roof height, so the aerial, its direction and its height are chosen on evidence rather than guesswork.

We then fit a modern wideband or high-gain digital aerial on a secure bracket or mast, run new double-screened low-loss cable, fit fresh connectors and retune your TV or recorder. Before we leave, we check every channel.

What's included

  • Survey and readings: we measure signal strength and quality from each likely position, including the loft.
  • The right aerial: wideband for most homes, high-gain where the signal is weak, and compact loft aerials where the readings allow.
  • Secure fixing: chimney lashings, wall brackets or masts sized for the aerial and the exposure of your roof.
  • New cable and connectors: double-screened coax, sealed against water, run neatly to your TV.
  • Set-up: a full Freeview retune, plus any recorder, smart TV or Freeview Play box.

Loft aerial or roof aerial?

A loft aerial is out of the weather and out of sight, which suits conservation areas, listed buildings and new-build homes. It only works where the signal is strong enough after passing through the roof, so we always test in the loft first.

Where the readings are too low, an external aerial on the chimney, a gable wall or a mast gives a far more reliable picture. On homes in valleys or surrounded by tall trees, an extra metre of mast can make all the difference.

Extra TV points and multi-room systems

Want TV in a bedroom, kitchen or garden room? We add extra TV points with a distribution amplifier so every room gets a clean signal. For larger homes we design multi-room systems that can carry Freeview, Freesat or a Sky Q feed. For blocks of flats and businesses, see our communal aerial systems.

Is a new aerial still worth it?

Yes, for most homes. Freeview through an aerial is guaranteed until at least the end of 2034, and the government is consulting on whether it should continue to 2044. It needs no broadband, keeps working if your internet goes down and has no monthly bill.

If you're thinking about a broadband-only service such as Freely or Sky Stream instead, we'll give you honest advice. Many households keep an aerial as a reliable backup.

Which transmitter?

Across our area, homes point at Crystal Palace (BBC London and ITV London), Sandy Heath (BBC Look East and ITV Anglia) or Oxford (BBC South Today and ITV Meridian), or at a local relay such as St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Welwyn or Hertford. Each town page explains the options locally.

TV aerial installation questions

How long does a TV aerial installation take?

Most installations take two to three hours, including readings, fitting, cabling and retuning. Multi-room systems and masts can take longer.

Do you remove the old aerial?

Yes. We take down the old aerial and cable and dispose of them, unless you ask us to leave them.

Can you install an aerial on the same day?

Often, yes. Call in the morning and we will do our best to fit you in the same day, especially for homes with no TV signal at all.

Do I need an amplifier or signal booster?

Only if the readings show you need one. Many homes get a better picture without an amplifier, and too much signal can be as bad as too little.

Do you fit DAB radio aerials as well?

Yes. We can fit a DAB or FM radio aerial at the same visit as your TV aerial.
